Cutting Teeth and Losing Teeth, What to Do?
Dealing with a teething baby can be difficult, especially at night time. Babies that are teething are in a lot of pain and tend to wake up a lot throughout the night. Luckily, there are quite a few tips that you can do to soothe a teething baby without losing any more sleep.
1. Create a Calming and Relaxing Atmosphere
One of the best ways to soothe a teething baby is to create a calming place that will promote sleep. Before bed, you should bath them, apply lotion, and put them in cotton pajamas. The cotton will prevent friction between the skin and the sleepwear. Make sure that their diaper is clean and that there are no distractions in their room. This means turning off any distracting noise and dimming the lights. Some parents even play calming, sleep-promoting music for their children.
2. Chill Milk or Fruit for a Pre Bedtime Snack
Before you put your baby to bed, you will want to make sure they have a full tummy so they will be able to sleep longer into the night. Frozen milk makes a great treat for your baby. All you have to do is get BPA-free Popsicle molds and fill them with breast milk or formula. Then, put them in the freezer for a few hours. If you have started to introduce solid foods to your teeth baby, then you can also freeze fruit and give it to them. You can also use a mesh bag when giving them frozen fruit to make sure they don’t choke. Whatever frozen snack you decide to give to your baby, make sure they have a bid and you are always supervising them.
3. Massage Their Gums
You might think that putting pressure on the gums would cause more pain to your child. That isn’t exactly the case. By massaging their gums, you will be relieving the pain because you are helping their teeth push through. So, after washing your hands, lay your baby down and gently rub their gums. This may even relax them enough so that they fall asleep. So, if they wake up in the middle of the night, after feeding and changing their diaper, you may want to give this a try.
4. Wipe Away an Excess Drool
The teeth pushing through the skin isn’t the only thing that is causing your baby to be in pain. When they are teething, they are also producing extra saliva. This can cause them to experience diarrhea. It can also cause irritation around the mouth which will lead to an uncomfortable rash.
Get a Good Night’s Sleep While Your Baby Is Teething
Teething is an inevitable thing that your baby will experience. That doesn’t mean that it needs to keep you up at night. Make sure that you are giving them something cold and massaging their gums before putting them down for the night.
